Housing
Zillmere features a large number of modestly sized post-war homes. Increasingly these properties are either being renovated or demolished to make way for modern apartment complexes.
Despite the fact that Zillmere has enjoyed strong growth in property prices over the last decade or so, it remains one of Brisbane's more affordable suburbs for those not wanting to live too far from the city.
This has ensured Zillmere is popular with first home buyers and investors alike, and is expected to remain so as the surrounding suburbs such as Chermside continue to move forward in leaps and bounds.
Shopping
Murphy Road is the main shopping strip through Zillmere. The strip recently underwent work that greatly improved its look and feel. The strip features an IGA Supermarket and all the other important outlets such as Dominos Pizza, 7Eleven, a bottle shop and plenty more.
If that's not enough, Westfield Chermside is just a five minute drive away, and if you're after furniture and electrical it's hard to beat Gympie Road though Aspley.
Sports
Brighton Park, in the middle of Zillmere, is home to a large number of sporting clubs, and was even touted as a location for a new golf course a few years ago.
The park is home to the North Star Football Club and the Zillmere Eagles Australian Football Club. The park also contains baseball, softball and netball fields, as well as some cricket nets. Also sharing the park is the Zillmere PCYC.
The park is a great place for a walk or a run during the day, and is often fully lit in the evenings for a late afternoon stroll after work.
Overall Zillmere is a great place to live, and thanks to its proximity to the Brisbane CBD and neighboring Chermside, its excellent public transport and affordable housing, Zillmere is sure to continue moving forwards for many decades to come.
